Drawing Breath Workshop

The Drawing Breath Workshop initially developed out of an invitation from Back to Back Theatre in 2019, to design a workshop alongside Robbie Croft who is a non-verbal and vision impaired artist and regular member of Back to Back’s Theatre of Speed.

The connection with Robbie came through the recognition of the completeness with which he draws and the joy with which he engages in the act of marking the world.

The workshop aims to remind us of this primal connection to mark-making, by investigating the interrelationship between the breathe – the starting point of all practices – and the line in space, both physically and texturally.

During the workshop, we employ a diverse range of processes and propositions which use the body as the primary material in collaboration with a selection of simple, non - pigmented, carbon based materials.

In the online version Robbie is present, engaged in full body drawing alongside the participants; his presence, breath and rhythms guiding the work.

The Drawing Breath workshop is available for half or full day sessions in studio contexts as live practice and in online versions to create greater access to the work.

Please head to the contact page, if you are interested in booking a workshop. You can see more of Robbie’s art work HERE

As part of the 2022 Alter States Festival CAMP, Robbie and Leisa held another online Drawing Breath event supported by Robbie’s carers Stephen Oakes and photographer Craig K Reasons These beautiful images were captured by Craig during the workshop.

"Leisa allows people to lead, is generous towards their ideas and responses, and adapts well when the unusual or unexpected arises. Her workshops have not only been successful, they have been a joy for participants and the Company."
